EVENT DESCRIPTION: Travis Parker, Pleshette Robertson, Derrell Roberts, , Joyce Brown and four other un-named players will be the first to become “Slaves” and meet the “GUMBO CHALLENGE”. They will compete to see who is the first to complete “THE JOURNEY FROM SLAVERY... TO FREEDOM.” before the “Slave Auction of January 1, 1863.
JOIN THE DISCUSSION: In the theatre, a playwright holds a script reading to gain perspective on his creation... from the perspective of all those whom he expects to impact with his work. Parker will do the same here.
“Slavery”, “Racism”, “Deception”, “Triumph”, “Hope”, “Perseverance”, “Death... It is all uncovered in “GUMBO GAME”, Thus, it’s all on the table for discussion.
QUESTIONS: 1) Do you think these topics are appropriate for a game? 2) Do you think that it is because these truths have been hidden from us that we have low self-esteem? 3) Does keeping these things hidden affect how other people see us? 4) How do you think learning these truths will impact African people across the Diaspora.
We will make a brief PRESS STATEMENT to announce the offering of the game to the world as a gift.
